Step By Step Countertop and Cabinet Design Selection and Installation Process

Our Process
Sims-Lohman’s design process consists primarily of the following steps, but each project is unique and the process for some will vary from this general guideline:

  • Five meetings with you in our showroom or in your home that will require six hours of your time.
  • Six-nine hours for your Sims-Lohman design professional to complete your kitchen/bath design.
  • Two-three weeks to finalize your design.
  • Three to ten weeks for delivery of cabinets (depending on the product purchased) from the time of your contract signing and deposit.

1. Getting Started

The best way to create a beautiful, functional kitchen or bath is to design it specifically for you and your family.  That’s why we like to get started by setting an appointment with one of our design professionals and having you complete a “lifestyle inventory” for this initial meeting.  It lays the groundwork for your whole project.

2. Initial Design Meeting

Date: _______________
Time: _______________ (2 hours)
Place:  Sims-Lohman Local Showroom

During this visit, the designer will show you product options and talk about what you expect from your dream kitchen or bath.  Bring with you the Lifestyle Inventory in this work plan, dimensions of your kitchen or bath (blueprints of your new construction or existing house are very helpful), and photographs of your existing space as well as photos of ones that you like.  The goal of this first meeting is to select a cabinet style and finish, identify your needs, wants and desires to develop a preliminary design, narrow down the countertop selections and confirm a budget based on this input.

At the end, you and the designer will schedule a date and time to review preliminary designs.

3. Showroom Design Review

Date: _______________
Time: _______________ (2 hours)
Place:  Sims-Lohman Local Showroom

Your Sims-Lohman design professional will present a preliminary design developed for your new space based on your "need, want, desire" list from the initial meeting.  This meeting will include the following:

  • Preliminary design will be reviewed keeping in mind your expectations
  • Possible changes will be discussed
  • Cabinet door style and finish will be reconfirmed
  • Accessory options will be considered
  • Your budget will be finalized

Then, if you are remodeling, a meeting at your home will be arranged to review final drawings and to take exact measurements.

4. In-Home Appointment

Date: _______________
Time: _______________ (2 hours)
Place:  Your Home

Confirmation of cabinetry door style(s) and colors along with countertop selections is an important part of this meeting.   Any final changes to the design plan and product selections are discussed and decided on.  Then you’re ready to set up the appointment for the pricing and contract signing…very close to making your dream a reality.

5. Final Plans and Pricing

Date: _______________
Time: _______________ (1 hour)
Place:  Sims-Lohman Local Showroom
When all the cabinetry design requirements have been satisfied and your selections have been made, you and your designer will meet again at the showroom for a review of the final plans and pricing.  At this time the contract with the final cabinetry selection will be signed and a 50% deposit for your cabinets will be required to start the project.  A preliminary schedule will be discussed regarding the projected start and finish dates so you can see the approximate length of time your dream kitchen/bath will take to come to life.  Now all that you need to do is visit our local indoor slab showroom to select the granite or stone for your countertops.

6. Local Slab Showroom Visit

Date: _______________
Time: _______________ (1 hour)
Place:  Sims-Lohman Local Slab Showroom
